Goya's life: A story of hope

During the pandemic, the percentage of abandoned pets had steadily increased. As a result many “owners” let their animals go homeless, without food or water. The story that I will tell describes one of thousand nameless testimonies.

On the 19th of May, when we were having a walk, we found a newborn abandoned kitten. She was scared and alone. The worst thing was that people ignored her without thinking about how tough this situation could be for an ill animal, so my mother and I rescued her and brought her home.

The kitten was almost dead; she was full of lice, dirt and worms. When we gave her food, she became crazy like she hadn’t eaten for weeks. Goya was near to pass away, but we never lost hope to see her recovery.

Days after, we went to the vet and they told us that she probably would lost both eyes due to a worm infection inside of it. We started to medicate our baby to save her eyes, but it was too late. Nevertheless, Goya took advantage of the situation and made big progress over time. Step by step, she turned into a beautiful blind cat whose abilities weren't as limited as we thought.

Nowadays, Goya loves to sunbathe, run across the countryside (near to us) and do drama about everything. She is the most valuable treasure for us despite her disability. We are the luckiest people to have such a blessing like her.
